An apparatus and method for conveying and supporting a heated workpiece in a furnace. The apparatus includes a furnace roller (10) having a roller body (12) with a roller body outer surface. The roller body is rotatable along a roller body longitudinal axis and has a tire (16) attached to the roller body outer surface. This tire rotates with the roller body (12) and supports the heated workpiece. Further, the tire (16) is shaped such that a contact interface between the workpiece and the tire continuously shifts in a longitudinal direction.
