A calibrating method and an array antenna receiving apparatus using the same. This calibrating method provides a high calibration accuracy and allows a successful calibration to be realized even when any of radio receiving units fails. In the array antenna receiving apparatus, received signals from an array antenna (101) are multiplexed with calibration signals of predetermined symbol pattern from multiplexer circuits (103) and then inputted to the radio receiving units (104). The calibration signals having passed through the radio receiving units are extracted by a calibration signal extracting unit (110). From these extracted calibration signals, an SIR detecting unit (111) detects, as reference branch, that one of the radio receiving units which exhibits the best reception quality. A calibration signal processing unit (109) corrects the reception orientation pattern in accordance with the phase difference between and the amplitude ratio of the calibration signal having passed through the detected reference branch and the calibration signals having passed through the other radio receiving units.
