Device comprises a CCD camera (14) arranged for viewing particles in the measurement volume via a window (4) and appropriate optics. The arrangement also comprises illuminating light sources and analysis unit. Within the beam path of the light source and or the camera optical band pass filters are arranged that only allow light of a certain wavelength to pass, or filter out a certain wavelength or define a particular polarization direction. An Independent claim is made for a method for determination of the properties of particles in a fluid suspension in which CCD camera and light sources are used together with appropriate optical filters to improve image contrast.
