Digital image master document (3) is provided in first color system, for making multiple copies of master document. Several printed reproductions are imaged or sections of them are recorded, in second color system using image recording device (8). Comparison image is calculated by forming average of recorded images. Comparison image is converted into first color system or master document is converted into second color system and converted image is compared with original. Digital color printing is adjusted to match colors between reproduction images and master document.
