<p>A process for deacidifying a crude oil, comprising: a) contacting the crude oil with a polar solvent, such that at least part of the organic acid present in the crude oil is extracted into the polar solvent as an extract phase, b) separating said extract phase from the treated crude oil of step a), c) contacting the extract phase from step b) with a basic material, which is capable of reacting with any organic acid present in the extract phase to produce a neutralisation product which is substantially insoluble in the polar solvent or is substantially immiscible with the polar solvent, and d) recovering the polar solvent from the neutralisation product.</p> |
