(Meth)acryloyloxyalkyl-dimethylammoniomethyl-benzyl-trialkylammonium dichlorides (I) are new. Compounds of formula (I) are new: CH2=C(R<1>)-C(O)-OR (I) R = a group of formula (Ia) or (Ib); R<1> = H or Me; R<2> = Et or iPr. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a process for preparing (I); (2) homo- or copolymers comprises monomer units derived from (I); (3) compounds of formula (III) as intermediates for the preparation of (I).
