The present invention relates to a safety lighting system for vehicles in which one or more lights (13) are attached to an underside of a vehicle (11, 12) and are disposed such that the lights (13) are directed downwardly at an angle towards the road surface. The downwardly directed light more clearly indicates the rear of the vehicle (11, 12) this allows its driver to better judge the position of the rear of his vehicle (11, 12), when changing lanes and pulling in in front of an approaching vehicle (16), thereby enabling him to pull safely into the lane ahead of vehicle (16), or for the driver of vehicle (11, 12) when overtaking a slower vehicle (17), to allow the driver of the vehicle (11, 12) to determine when his rear has sufficiently cleared vehicle (17) to enable him to pull safely into the lane ahead of vehicle (17). |
