<p>The disclosure describes a method of fulfilling a request for an electronic book (232) having an electronic book digital rights management system (214). The method includes receiving a request (202) from a network client that includes an electronic book identifier (232) and a retailer identifier (206). The method also includes determining a digital rights management (DRM) system for the identified electronic book from a set of at least two DRM systems provided by a different unaffiliated vendor (220), and distributing the electronic book (230) to the network client (208) in accordance with the electronic book's electronic book DRM system.
