The glass element comprises an inner glass pane and peripheral metal fitting strips which on their inner edge (18) have counter profiles (19) to match the profiles (16) on the edges (14) of the glass pane (13). The fitting strip parts adjoining one another at the corners of the pane are connected together through connecting elements. The glass pane and strips are preferably the same thickness.
