The invention relates to a method and a reaction installation for chemically coating shaped bodies with covalently bonded polymers. The polymerization step and optionally preceding or subsequent reaction steps are carried out in a reaction installation with a heat exchanging device in such a manner that the reaction space is firstly equilibrated with a reaction solution, the flow is then interrupted and, without further recirculation of the reaction solution, the reaction space is heated from outside to a reaction temperature in order to start the reaction.
