The invention facilitates backup of the image data recorded in an image pickup apparatus and also enables easy management of the image data from the image pickup apparatus. For this purpose, the flash memory stores taken image data, and, when the power supply detection circuit of the cradle detects the connection of the connectors, the power supply circuit is activated while the charging circuit charges the rechargeable battery. The LCD display device displays a cradle operation menu image. When "data backup" is selected, the CPU prepares a folder in the backup HDD, then searches a newly taken image in the image data of the flash memory and moves such image data to the new folder of the HDD. The image conversion circuit writes the image data into the flash memory after reducing the size of the image data matching the number of display dots of the LCD display device.
