The device has an array of detector elements, each with a scintillator (3,3') and a photodiode (6,6') interacting with it. Detector elements on the edge of the array have scintillators with a dimension transverse to the edge that is greater than that required to detect the detection area. The dimension is increased by 0.5 to 1.2 times the thickness of the scintillator.
