The invention relates to a device for determining the wheel geometry and/or axle geometry of motor vehicles in a measuring area by using an optical measuring device having at least two image recording devices (2), which record a marking device from at least two different perspectives, and having an evaluation device, whereby the marking device is recorded as the motor vehicle passes by. A simplified measurement is thus achieved in that the vertical direction in the measuring area is determined based on the referencing and in that the reference feature system is used for measuring the mutual position and location (referencing) of the at least two image recording devices (2). According to the invention, the referencing is carried out before the motor vehicle passes by and the reference features are known or the referencing is likewise carried out before the motor vehicle passes by, however, at least five unknown reference features are used or the referencing is carried out as the motor vehicle passes by and at least five unknown reference features are used.
