The invention relates to a method for operating a TAP controller with a first input connection (Etms), for input of a logical test mode selection signal (tms) and a second input connection (Etrst), for the input of a logical reset signal (trst). The TAP controller is configured such that said controller is in a test mode when the test mode output signal (tms) is in a first logical condition ("O") and not in a test mode when the test mode selection signal is in a second logical condition ("1"). Said controller may be asynchronously reset from the first logical condition ("O") by a single application of the logical reset signal (trst). Said method comprises the following steps: preparation of an external logical reset signal (reset n); generation of a logical OR-link for the external logical reset signal (reset n) and the inverted logical test mode selection signal (tms), in order to generate the logical reset signal (trst) and application of the logical reset signal (trst), generated by the logical OR-link, to the second input connection (Etrst). The invention further relates to a corresponding TAP controller.
