PURPOSE: To reduce the load on inquiring time information to a VCR from a video server. CONSTITUTION: A VCR 101 is controlled by a video server 100 based on instruction, for example, from a host controller 105, and a tape is replayed and a video signal is outputted at the VCR 101. The video signal is supplied to the server 100, to be encoded and recorded there. A common reference signal is supplied to the server 100 and the VCR 101. The server 100 performs encode processing while inquiring about time information to the VCR 101. At inquiry about the time information to the VCR 101, the server 100 detects the current state of the VCR 101 to adjust intervals for inquiring the time information in response to the detected result, also infers the time information in the VCR 101 from the reference signal, to reduce the number of time for inquiring time information of the VCR 101 from the server 100. Thus, communication load between the server 100 and the VCR 101 is reduced. |
