PURPOSE:To prevent the contamination of a liquid crystal layer and to provide the color filter having high image quality and long life by electrically shielding sources for elution of impurity ions to prevent the elution of the impurity ions by the electric fields formed with the DC components of the voltage to be applied. CONSTITUTION:The color filter is formed by previously partly chipping off a photoconductor layer 3 in the part at the end where picture elements 4 are not formed to put this part into the exposed state of the conductor layer 2 so that the conducting state of the conductor layer 2 and a common electrode 5 is assured. Namely, the transparent conductor layer 2 is formed on at least one surface on the transparent base of the color filter and the transparent conductor layer 2 on the transparent base 1 and the common electrodes 5 on the picture elements are brought into contact with each other to assure the electrically conducting state to form the structure enclosing the picture elements 4, etc., which are the sources for elution of the impurity ions completely or mostly by the conductors. The electrical shielding is thus applied at the time of application of the driving voltage, thereby, the image display safe over a long period of time is assured. |
