PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inexpensively producing hydrogen storage alloy powder excellent in high rate dischargeability and suitable for a nickel- hydrogen storage battery high in capacity and long in a charging and discharging cycle life. SOLUTION: This hydrogen storage alloy powder is the one in which, on the outermost surface layer of hydrogen storage alloy powder, the part rich in Ni metal and/or the part rich in Co metal or the part rich in a mixture of Ni metal and Co metal are insularly present, and the part of metal oxide composed of metal having an oxidation-reduction potential lower than that of both Ni metal and Co metal and/or the part of metal hydroxide or the part composed of a mixture of metal oxide and metal hydroxide is insularly present, and the negative electrode for an alkali storage battery uses this. |
