摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a stable pretilt angle in a specified range without disturbing the orientability of the liquid crystal by incorporating a polymer and imidized polymer obtd. by the reaction of tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and diamine compd. expressed by specified formulae. CONSTITUTION:This orienting agent for liquid crystal contains a polymer and/or its imidized polymer obtd. by the reaction of tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride expressed by formula I (R<1> is a quadrivalent org. group) and a diamine compd. expressed by formula II (R<2>, R<4> are univalent org. groups selected from methyl, ethyl, trifluoromethyl groups, R<3> is a straight-chain and/or branched-chain alkyl group of 1-20 carbon number, (a), (c) are integers of 0 to 4, and (b) is an integer of 1 to 4). By this method, good orienting property is obtd. and a stable pretilt angle from 3 to 90 degree can be obtd. without disturbing the orienting property of the liquid crystal.
