Process for adjusting a welding device (1), especially a TIG welding device, comprises adjusting the welding parameters and/or process types for a welding process using an operating panel of an inputting/outputting unit (22) having a keyboard (42), an encoder (47) and display elements (46), such as an illuminating diode. After the keyboard is operated for a defined time the operating panel is switched from determining the operation type to determining a further characteristic welding parameter for the adjusted operating type.
