A printing blanket has a compressible elastomeric blanket (12) secured to the top surface of a metal base plate (14) except at the ends of the blanket. An anti-slip layer is on the end(s) of the top surface for retaining the ends of the plate within a gap on a print cylinder. The layer has a greater friction coefficient than the base plate and is thick enough to permit insertion of the base plate edges and ends into the gap. A sealant (36) may prevent liquid entering along the edges of the blanket. The sealant is a polymer of nitrile, acrylic, fluorocarbon, urethane, cyanoacrylate and/or epoxy.
