<p>The spinning machine, and especially a ring spinner with a number of spinning stations, has sliver drawing units (11) for each station with condensing zones. A twist blocking roller (15) is at the end of the condensing zone (12) away from the final press roller (14) of the drawing unit. The mantle surface of the twist blocking roller has a soft elasticity. The twist blocking roller is rotated slightly slower or faster than the surface speed of the condensing drum (13), so that the drawn and condensed sliver (17) is slightly compressed or relaxed or drafted through the slip between the drum and the roller. The sliver drawing and condensing unit, for a ring spinning station, applies a compression built-up or draft action on the sliver at the exit of the condensing zone, which is at maximum only a few percentages and preferably 1-10%, effectively 2-6% and especially 3%. The difference in the diameters of the drive and drive take-off rollers is 0.2-1.4 mm and especially 0.8 mm. The soft surface of the twist blocking roller is of a material with a Shore hardness of 60-85 deg . The suction condensing drum is of metal. The drum drive roller is powered by a motor and gearing assembly. The gap between the rotary axes of the condensing drum and the twist blocking roller is less than the sum of the radii of the drum and the roller.
