PURPOSE: A method for controlling a length format of a No.7 signal message is provided to set a limit length according to the number of a length field and select the number of the length field in case that the limit length is longer than a real length when transmitting a message, and grasp a length format and automatically obtain the real length of the message according to the grasped length format when receiving the message. CONSTITUTION: It is judged whether a length of a transmitting message is less than '1'(S10). If the length of the transmitting message is more than '1', it is judged whether the length of the transmitting message is less than '128'(S12). If the length of the transmitting message is less than '128', the message is converted into a short length format and the converted message is outputted(S13). If the length of the transmitting message is more than '128', a limit length and a constant(K) are set as '0'(S14). The constant(K) is increased and a process such as "limit length = limit length+255*255¬K" is repeatedly performed until the limit length is more than the real length(S15-S17). If the limit length is more than the real length, the message is divided according to the constant value and is converted into a long length format(S18).
