The electron gun has an internal space (22) under vacuum, in which a primary electron beam is generated from an electron source (14). The beam is directed to an output window (20) with a front film (40) producing a secondary beam. The primary and secondary beams are fixed. The effective surface area of impact on the frontal film is wholly confined inside the beam impact. The zones of dissipation are not crossed by the electron beams. The secondary beam power output is constant.
