PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide dot or flip-dot display elements of small size, in which disks or dots invert between ON position to indicate a high-luminance surface and OFF position to indicate a low-luminance surface, and to provide a method of manufacturing a flip-dot display consisting of these elements. SOLUTION: The dots are inverted by electromagnets, having poles wound with first coils which generate reversible magnetic fields to activate the flip-dots. Second coils are wound in series around the first coils. The second coils are dipped into molten solder to form electrical contacts to energize the first coils and to mount the elements to circuit boards. The flip-dots smaller than 5 mm may be used, without the need for separate terminal pins to be electrically connected to the coils.
