PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material, having sufficiently high strength and well-balanced high refractive index and Abbe's number and to make a lens thin. SOLUTION: The optical material is obtained by polymerizing and curing a composition for the optical material containing a compound, having one or more structures of formula (1) (where R1 is a 0-10C hydrocarbon; R2-R4 are each a 1-10C hydrocarbon or H; Y is O, S, Se or Te; m is 1-5; and n is 0-5) in a single molecule, a compound having one or more isocyanate and/or isothiocyanate groups per molecule, a compound having one or more mercapto groups per molecule and an inorganic compound having a sulfur atom and/or a selenium atom as essential components.
