PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device of pre-treatment of gas adsorbing material capable of preventing deterioration of the adsorbing material during filling an adsorption type gas storage container with the gas adsorbing material. SOLUTION: Gas adsorbing material 10 is put in an electric furnace 11 and the electric furnace 11 is evacuated with a vacuum pump 30. The gas adsorbing material 10 is heated for a designated time in the electric furnace 11 under the evacuated condition. Then, the gas adsorbing material 10 is cooled and protection gas is introduced in the electric furnace 11 to make the gas adsorbing material 10 adsorb protection gas for completion of a pre-treatment. After the pre-treated gas adsorbing material 10 is filled in the gas storage container, protection gas is desorbed from the gas adsorbing material 10. Protection gas is selected from gases that can desorb from the gas adsorbing material 10 at a temperature below a heat resistant temperature of the gas storage container.
