PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating condition detecting device of an internal combustion engine, capable of determining the operating condition of the internal combustion engine or the like with high accuracy, by preventing impairing of the signal detecting accuracy of the ion current in detecting the operating condition of the internal combustion engine, on the basis of the ion current. SOLUTION: In this operating condition detecting device for the internal combustion engine, a first ion current detecting signal Si1 capable of easily detecting a fine signal component, and a second ion current detecting signal Si2, capable of detecting the whole waveform of ion current are outputted from an ion current detecting circuit 29. A knock-determining circuit 47 in a determining circuit 45 determines the knocking, on the basis of a third ion current detecting signal Si3 extracted from the first ion current detecting signal S1 as a prescribed frequency component corresponding to the knock. A misfire- determining circuit 49 in the determining circuit 45 determines the misfire, on the basis of a fourth ion current detecting signal Si4 obtained by reversing the second ion current detecting signal Si2.
