PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning method of an electrifying brush roller whose cost is reduced because of a simple constitution and also by which an excellent image is obtained over a long term by suppressing the occurrence of an abnormal image. SOLUTION: In the cleaning method of the electrifying brush roller in which a contact electrifying means to electrify a photoreceptor by using the electrifying brush roller and a cleaning means to remove toner remaining on the photoreceptor after transfer are arranged, DC bias is applied by the electrifying brush roller at the time of outputting the image, and the DC bias is set as 0 V and AC bias is applied for more than time required for one rotation of the photoreceptor after outputting the image.
