PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diaphragm mechanism for camera driven by a step motor and having many light control steps. SOLUTION: A filter member 4 and plural diaphragm blades 18 are pivotally fitted to the different surfaces of a bottom board 1, and the rotor 5 of the step motor is coupled with a driving ring 17 through a master/slave gear 16, and the pin 18b of a diaphragm blade 18 is fit in the cam groove 17a of the ring 17. In the case of retreating the member 4 from an aperture part 1a, the ring 17 is rotated counterclockwise from initial position, and a pressing part 17b rotates a filter actuating member 5 clockwise and is locked by a locking member 7. Thereafter, the ring 17 is rotated clockwise and stopped at a specified diaphragm aperture position. After photographing, the ring 17 is rotated clockwise, the pressing part 17c presses the member 7 so as to release the locking of the member 5, and then the ring 17 is restored to the initial position. In the case of deciding the diaphragm aperture in a state where the member 4 is still inserted in the aperture part 1a, the ring 17 is rotated clockwise from the beginning.
