PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external wall structure which is excellent in air permeability and high in strength, and to provide a starter fixture for use therein. SOLUTION: The external wall structure 5 is comprised of the starter fixture 1 bearing an external wall board 2 arranged at an undermost location, a ground sill throating 3 arranged below the undermost external wall board 2, a furring strip 4 to which the starter fixture 1 is fixed, and the external wall board 2 borne by the starter fixture 1. The starter fixture 1 includes a substrate portion 11 having a flat rear surface 11 to be fixed to the furring strip 4, a bearing portion 12 bent frontward from the substrate portion 11, for bearing the external wall board 2, and spacer portions 13 each having a U-shaped cross section on right and left side of the substrate portion 11, for forming venting layers 53.
