PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell equipped with cells of such a configuration that an anode and a cathode are arranged on a solid high-polymer film, wherein power generation can be performed stably with excellent characteristics by making uniform the wettability of the solid high-polymer film and an electrode catalyst layer. SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes a gas diffusion layer 24 pinched by a cathode catalyst layer 22 and a cathode side separator plate 60, and the region 24A of the layer 24 confronts an oxidator channel 65 in a certain range from the inlet for oxidizing agent gas (air) is adjusted as having a higher water retaining performance than the region 24B confronting a rib 66. The adjustment of the water retaining performance of the gas diffusion layer 24 is conducted by setting the content of water repellent material per unit area of the channel confronting part 24A so that it is smaller than the content of the water repellent material per unit area of the rib confronting part 24B. |
