PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a structure capable of simplifying the structure of the polarizing device of a permanent magnet-made encoder 18 to reduce the cost. SOLUTION: The encoder 18 comprises a permanent magnet 20 provided on the circumferential surface of a magnetic metal plate-made support ring 19. The permanent magnet 20 is formed of a plurality of circular segments 21 and 21 serially arranged in the circumferential direction. Each segment 21, 21 is polarized prior to integration to the circumferential surface of the support ring 19, whereby the above purpose can be attained.
