PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium loading unit which can accept different kinds of disk-shaped recording media and can stably hold and transport the disk-shaped recording medium, and realizes installation space saving of the unit. SOLUTION: This recording medium loading unit has a holder 40 in which a carrier unit 70 to transport recording media 11, 12 between an ejection position and a loading position is arranged, and a base 20 having a turntable to rotationally drive loaded recording media 11 to 13, and is provided with a driving mechanism to be driven so that the holder 40 approaches relatively the base 20. The holder 40 is provided with a disk lever 60 which engages with and holds the recording media 11, 12 transported by the carrier unit 70. The base 20 is provided with drive cams 28, 29 which engage with and applies turning energization to the disk lever 60 accompanying the relative approach of the holder 40 and the base 20. Thereby, the disk lever 60 is separated from the recording media 11, 12 in the state where the recording media 11, 12 are loaded on a turntable 24.
