PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect an MR head from the damage due to the electrostatic discharge. SOLUTION: The MR head 10 in a slider 1 is furnished with an MR sensor 30, and the MR sensor 30 is connected to pads 42 and 44. A suspension assembly 120 used with the slider 1 is provided with lead wires 122, 124 which are connected to each of the pads 42 and 44. The suspension assembly 120 is provided with an insulation layer 121 for supporting the lead wires 122, 124 and the conductive strip 130 mechanically and electrically connected with the insulation layer 121. The conductive strip 130 functions as the grounding surface with respect to the suspension assembly 120 and the MR head 10 to reduce or remove the damage due to the electrostatic discharge. The suspension assembly 120 is further furnished with the diodes 132, 134, 136, 138 for connecting the lead wire 122 with the conductive strip 130. Similarly by these diodes, the protection is given against the damage due to the electrostatic discharge.
