PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having an electrifier that performs control so as to ensure stable electrification potential in which a variation in the electrification potential of an image carrier, as an electrified body, is less even in the case an electrode is soiled with toner, etc. SOLUTION: An AC voltage is applied to a discharge electrode through dielectric. An opening is provided for the electrified body. A DC voltage is applied to a shield electrode surrounding the discharge electrode. Thus, the electrification potential of the electrified body is controlled.
