PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which the structure and the production process can be simplified without using liquid crystals and the power consumption during a display period can be reduced. SOLUTION: A magnetic field is generated at a selected position on a display surface 8 and magnetic display material 4 made out of magnetic bodies is driven by the field. For example, the device is provided with an X direction transparent electrode group 2 and a Y direction transparent electrode group 3 which are opposingly arranged at a prescribed intervals and can be selectively and electrically energized. Magnetic field is generated at the crossing sections of the electrically energized X and Y direction transparent electrodes. The location or the attitude of the material 4 is varied in accordance with the magnetic field between the groups 2 and 3.
