PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for winding a thread by which a wire body is formed stably into a prescribed outside diameter dimension, while winding the thread onto the wire body at a high speed. SOLUTION: In the method for winding the thread wherein a thread winding bobbin 8 is provided, so as to freely rotate around the wire body 4 in the downstream side of an assembly die 5 which forms the wire body 4 by assembling optical fibers 2 and thread-like interventions 3, while continuously inserting them respectively, and the wire body 4 is formed into the prescribed outside diameter by winding the thread 9 delivered from the thread winding bobbin 8 around the wire body 4 in a prescribed position of the downstream side of the thread winding bobbin 8, a guide pipe 6 for holding the outside diameter of the wire body 4 is provided in the downstream side of the assembly die 5 and also a forming die 14 for adjusting the outside diameter of the wire body 4 is provided right after a thread 9 winding position, the wire body 4 is sent to the downstream side, while holding the outside diameter by being inserted into the guide pipe 6 after forming the wire body 4 into the prescribed outside diameter by the assembly die 5, and the wire body is drawn into the prescribed outside diameter by being inserted into the forming die 14 right, after the winding position.
