PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline secondary battery with an enhanced electrolytic solution holding property, and with enhanced cycle life characteristics over a long period of time and charging/discharging characteristics at high temperatures by incorporating a specific inorganic oxide in its separator. SOLUTION: At least one kind selected from among an inorganic oxide group comprising calcium oxide, aluminum oxide, manganese oxide, magnesium oxide, tin oxide, nickel oxide, cobalt oxide, yttrium oxide, ytterbium oxide, zinc oxide, vanadium oxide, and silicon dioxide, exists in the separator for this alkaline secondary battery.
