PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To diminish unevenness in retardation of an optical compensating film support or the like comprising a cellulose ester film produced by a solution film producing method. SOLUTION: When a dope, prepared by dissolving a cellulose ester in a methylene chloride-base solvent, is cast from a casting die on a casting base to produce a cellulose ester film, the water content of the dope is adjusted to 0.3-1 wt.%.
