PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acoustic wave type flow velocity distribution measuring instrument and method that can measure flow velocity distribution in fluid equipment without a flow velocity measuring instrument coming in direct contact with the while preventing measuring equipment from being influenced by a measured fluid in a plant or the like. SOLUTION: This acoustic type flow velocity distribution measuring instrument is provided with an acoustic wave transmitter-receiver arranged in a large number at the outer periphery of a passage to transmit and receive acoustic waves; a timer that sends a transmission trigger for ordering the transmission of acoustic wave and receives acoustic wave receive trigger and making the transmit time and receive time into numeric values; a recording device; and a computer. The measuring method is provided using the device.
