摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head capable of settling a large recording magnetic field even though the surface of an upper magnetic pole is flattened. SOLUTION: The prescribed thickness SL of the upper magnetic pole 35 is maintained up to the position stipulated by a gap depth GD. At the place beyond the position stipulated by the gap depth GD, a thin film part 46 with the thickness PL thinner than the prescribed thickness SL is stipulated for the upper magnetic pole 35. The core width of the upper magnetic pole 35 is expanded from the position stipulated by the neck height NH which is shorter than the gap depth GD. By that the neck height NH is stipulated to be shorter than the gap depth GD, the thickness of the upper magnetic pole 35 is decreased after the core width begins to be expanded. The bottle neck of the magnetic flux current is hardly generated, and the sufficient magnetic flux current flows into the front end of the upper magnetic pole 35. The intensity of the magnetic field leaked out from the surface confronted with a medium, i.e., the intensity of the recording magnetic field is increased.
