<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk drive which is removable and widely adaptive to host devices. SOLUTION: This disk drive is equipped with a means which mechanically and electrically attaches and detaches the disk drive to and from an unspecified host device having a common connection style without using any special instrument, multiple operation modes which include a set of spindle motor actuating operation, tape fast-forwarding and rewinding speeds, read operation, and head track seek operation and differ in necessary maximum current value, a means which selects one of the multiple operation modes, and a means which provides pieces of necessary maximum current value information on multiple selectable operation modes to the host device and is characterized by that the disk rotational speed of one of the operation modes which are selected first is different from that of at least other one operation mode having a different necessary maximum current value. The host device can properly select an operation mode and actuates the disk drive, so an internal power source can effectively be used.</p> |
