PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a jig for mounting a piston ring on a piston and securely mount the piston ring in a small number of processes by increasing a mounting speed so as to improve the productivity. SOLUTION: In the mounting method for the resin piston ring 2, an outer peripheral end of the piston ring 2 is nipped between a lower retainer 14 and an upper retainer 16, the piston ring 2 is pressed down along outer periphery of the piston 1 while elastically expanding an inside diameter of the piston ring 2 nipped by the lower and upper retainers 14, 16, an inner peripheral end of the piston ring 2 is fitted in a ring groove 1A of the piston 1 by shrinking its diameter elastically to mount the piston ring 2 at outer periphery of the piston 1 in a cylindrical manner.
