PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having superior smoothness of a coating film and superior electromagnetic transducing characteristics and excellent in running durability. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has at least one magnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic powder and a binder on a nonmagnetic base. The binder is produced by crosslinking a polyurethane resin and a compound having two or more radiation functional double bonds in one molecule and having a molecular weight of 200-2,000 obtained by radiation. The polyurethane resin is produced by polymerizing 10-50 wt.% polyether polyol, 15-40 wt.% short chain diol having a cyclic structure and an organic diisocyanate.
