PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacity determining method for a secondary battery accurately detecting a capacity of a secondary battery. SOLUTION: A plurality of data pairs of currents and voltages of the battery are measured and stored (ST1). Voltage/current characteristics of the battery are determined on the basis of the data pairs of each current and voltage (ST4). A maximum dischargeable power Pout, max and a maximum chargeable power Pin, max are determined on the basis of the voltage/current characteristics (ST5 and ST6). An SOC of the battery is estimated on the basis of both the maximum dischargeable power Pout, max and the maximum chargeable power Pin, max (ST9).
