The implant shank (1), designed to be cemented into the medullary cavity of the femur, has its upper end shaped to form a centering plug in the open end of the cavity to prevent any escape of cement when pressure is applied to the implant. The metaphysis zone of the shank has an asymmetrical cross-section between its anterior and posterior faces, the anterior face being flat and the posterior face rounded.
