PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording and reproducing device that emits a laser beam to a phase change optical recording medium to write/read information to/from the recording medium, prevents a recording layer of the phase change optical recording medium from being destroyed and reduces the time required for the erasure of information. SOLUTION: Information with respect to an erasure power and a line speed at recording is recorded in advance onto a phase change optical recording medium 1. In the case of only erasing information recorded on the phase change optical recording medium 1, the power of the laser beam at recording is made to the erasure power on the basis of the information on the erasure power and the line speed recorded on the phase change optical recording medium 1 and the information is erased at a line speed faster than the line speed at recording. A recording material used for the recording layer 4 of the phase change optical recording medium 1 contains at least SbTe. |
