PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which can maintain high gradation. SOLUTION: The display device uses a light modulator as an image forming means and performs projection display from a projection optical system. Further the display device which expresses gradation by changing ON time in a time axis direction in one flame period of the light modulator, is distinguished by providing with a state where the light modulator has at least three ratio of light utilization in the ON time.
