According to the method: (a) one or more codes attracted to the mail item is read using the device (b) the code is automatically split into a first group having dispatch related data and a second group of additional data (c) the additional data is transmitted to a special processing module of the device and (d) the additional data is automatically evaluated and results displayed based on rules stored in memory.
