The invention concerns a method for partially oxidising in a Claus furnace a gas stream comprising hydrogen sulphide and ammonia with an oxygen-enriched gas stream which consists in: measuring the residual ammonia content at the Claus furnace output; comparing said value to the desired residual ammonia content; and optionally modifying the ratio of the oxygen-enriched gas stream flow rate over the gas flow rate comprising hydrogen sulphide and ammonia so as to obtain the desired residual ammonia content.
